Brainstorming

Typically, I begin projects with team-oriented or autonomous ideation methods, which can include mood boards, mind mapping, etc. For this project in particular, I was looking to capture a gritty, ominous tone, gathering certain images which convey a feeling or an artistic quality that I admire (texture, composition, typography, etc.).

Since this was based on the reporter’s book, it was important to balance distinct qualities from the source material such as the dreary sky or dark, treacherous seas with our new approach, which needed to align across other’s expectations (the host, client, sponsor, legal, etc.).

After exploring different compositions with the creative team and reviewing with the client, we've landed on something, which we’ve found best spoke to the essence of the show and other’s expectations and was also adaptable to the bespoke episodic series.
